Craft~op~o~lis Wonderment in Portlandia!

Once a month I get together with my ‘chickadees’ to have what they have entitled a Crafty Wonder Bi~o~tch.

Ok, so don’t be all offended now, I wasn’t the one responsible for the name but it does have a sort of

“je ne sais quoi” about it.

Each of us gals take a turn hosting in which we get to pick a theme, come up with a craft idea to share and we eat & drink yummy deliciousness while crafting the night away.

This months event was hosted by the divine mrs…..Rae. She chose the theme of India!

And wow….did she ever go all out! She even had silk saree’s hanging from the ceilings and candles were lit all about in a flickering glow. We were also greeted by Bolywood music echoing throughout her pad. We all brought some scrumptious selections of Indian fare to share. It was fabulous! Here’s a sneak peak into our evening of fun.

Yosemite is Heaven on Earth

Yosemite National Park is a taste of Heaven on Earth!

I took all of these pictures with my little point & shoot camera. Now not to say that’s a cheesy camera after all it’s the FUJIFILM XP which in my mind is a diamond. After years of hauling around lenses & cases for my professional cameras I decided to take the plunge to make a light haul this year and as you can see I’m thrilled that I did. Take a look further into this sweet little gem as she’s water proof too!

Anyway back to Yosemite…

A plethora of endless beauty everywhere. Waterfalls and streams, meadows, rock formations spiring to the clouds above  casting spells on all who venture there peaks.

Devastation Connects Joplin Missouri USA From My Heart To Yours

 

St Johns is a 250 room hospital, Joplin’s biggest medical facility. It is lost. Last week a tornado hit the hospital dead on. EKG machines, gurneys & more were flying down the hall. The ambulance doors immediately gave way and caved into the emergency entrance. Nurses had laid their own bodies on top of patients in hopes of protecting them. The newly wounded in the area were flooding into the hospital. Surviving patients were evacuated to a parking lot and then transported to other hospitals.

Six patients died that day at St Johns. Over 142 people have been declared dead in Joplin. Over 100 more are unaccounted for.

What was your week like?

Mine was filled with sunshine, a few rainy days, dinners with family and friends, birthday celebrations, music, & creating and writing in the city of roses that will rarely have a conversation about tornados let alone actually experience one here.

What started as an F0 began to take shape building at 200 miles per hour into a killer tornado within a 5 mile area of Joplin.

My friend Chris Lewis is from Joplin Missouri. Chris went to his childhood home to see the immense destruction.

He wasn’t at home when the tornado hit. Here is what is left of the bedroom he knew so well.

Mom & dad are safe, they have their lives thank God. Their home & means of making a living are lost.

This is my connection to the disaster in Joplin Missouri. Now it is your connection too.

It’s that time of year where Hand Made Fairs, Saturday Markets, Garage Sales and more line up to capture my attention. Crafty Wonderland is my fav! It’s a yearly ‘craft-tastic’ event that (until recently) was only during November but last year for a 1st they added a Spring event. Yay!!! Groopies line up early to receive goodie bags (1st 200 peeps snag em!). It’s a matter of sport! You can spend hours here if you’re not careful. Visible Reflections of Our Souls

My morning gift from creations creator is a catechism. Lessons to be learned are all around us.

It is up to us to let the light switch on , be aware and search for the application for our souls.

I am driving from Portland to Eugene yesterday. About a 2 hour trip south when I notice what I thought was a flock of geese on the side of the freeway. It didn’t blow my mind as we see geese frequently in these here parts.
My eyes focussed in on what was mistaken to them as geese…no, hawks? No, they are territorial and would never congregate in such a group…never that many in one place! Then I shouted out ‘They are eagles!!!’

At least 30 to 40 of them in a field of sheep!

It was the males white sea foam hood of feathers adorning their head that gave them away.

Eagles are something we see occasionally here in the Portland metro area of Oregon but rarely and not more than 2 if truly blessed. Here was a ‘herd’!

I pulled over safely.
Grabbed my FUJIFILM XP Water/Shock/Dust/Freeze Proof point & shoot camera. I just purchased it last night so I have a light weight all around easily accessible camera with me at all times instead of lugging around a plethora of camera lenses & attachments. Thankfully I had charged the battery. Sadly I didn’t have time to select any specific settings thus the poor quality. I just started snapping away.
As I got closer I realized exactly what all the commotion was about.

Here all around me were lambs being born. I had arrived just in time to see a ewe drop to her knees & give birth to twins.
Why were all the eagles surrounding? At first I was concerned they may be praying on innocent new borns and then I watched as they swooped in to partake of the placenta left behind.
They were there to feast on the afterbirth. It was a once in a lifetime moment! A gift to watch these majestic birds in the circle of life.

I must tell you what occurred from within carried me throughout my day.

It was a rare glimpse into the soul.
